Care Guide

Mellazoro pieces range from soft jersey knits to structured coats with dimensional appliqués, and from crepe gowns with metallic embroidery to layered tulle with beaded bodices. Because construction and materials vary across the collection, the care label sewn inside each garment is always the authoritative guide. The steps below cover general maintenance and safe handling for the types of details found across our current styles.

Read the Label Before You Touch a Stain

Every Mellazoro garment includes a sewn-in care label with manufacturer instructions. Before attempting any cleaning, locate that label and follow it. If the label is missing or unreadable, check the product page for care notes or contact us with the item name and a photo of the label area. Do not assume that one garment's instructions apply to another, even within the same style category.

Protecting Embellishments and Decorative Surfaces

Several of our designs feature details that require extra attention during wear, cleaning, and storage:

  • Beads, sequins, and faceted beadwork — Avoid pressing, folding over, or rubbing these areas against rough surfaces. When handling a beaded bodice or neckline, support the fabric from behind rather than pulling at individual elements.
  • Floral embroidery with metallic thread — Metallic-toned threads can tarnish or loosen with friction. Keep embroidered panels away from jewelry, bag clasps, and belt buckles during wear.
  • 3D appliqués — Raised stitched appliqués, such as the window motifs on our coat styles, can snag on hooks or Velcro. Fasten all closures before placing the garment in a bag or on a hanger.
  • Graphic prints — Printed areas on knit fabrics may shift or crackle under high heat or aggressive scrubbing. Never iron directly over a print.
  • Lace trim and illusion mesh — Sheer mesh and lace edges are more vulnerable to snags than solid fabric. Avoid contact with rough nails, pet claws, and textured upholstery.

After Each Wear

Hang the garment on a padded or shaped hanger that supports the shoulders and bodice. If the piece has corset boning or a structured waist, a wide, contoured hanger helps maintain its shape. Allow the fabric to air out before returning it to a closet, especially after extended wear. Check for loose threads, lifted beads, or a partially open zipper before storing.

Handling Small Stains or Spills

Blot the affected area gently with a clean, white, dry cloth. Do not rub, as rubbing can spread the stain, distort knit loops, or dislodge surface embellishments. If the stain persists after blotting, or if it sits on or near beading, embroidery, or a print, stop and seek professional cleaning rather than experimenting with solvents or home remedies. For a cautious spot test on solid, unembellished fabric, apply a tiny amount of your chosen cleaner to an inconspicuous inner seam and check for color change before treating a visible area.

Storing Without Damage

  • Keep garments away from direct, prolonged sunlight to help preserve color across all dye options.
  • Store tulle and mesh pieces in a breathable garment bag to prevent snagging and dust accumulation.
  • Do not compress beaded or appliquéd sections under heavier items in a closet.
  • Ensure the storage area is dry to discourage moisture-related issues in linings and structured components.
  • If a garment has a concealed back zipper, close it before hanging to prevent the teeth from catching on adjacent fabrics.

When to Seek Professional Help

Contact a qualified garment cleaner or repair specialist rather than continuing at home if you notice: missing or loose beads and sequins, detached appliqués, damaged embroidery, a broken zipper or closure, a stain that has set into a mesh or lined area, or any structural issue with boning or shaping. A professional can assess whether repair is feasible without risking further damage.
